Hi guys,

Anyone know of a vet in the Sydney Hills district or near there who can treat RI?

On Tuesday I acquired an adult Stimson who has been quite lethargic since I got him, has the odd head twitch and what I suspect is RI. Small amount of saliva appeared out of his nostril last night as well as from his mouth and when I saw him yawn this afternoon he had excess mucus in his mouth.

I watched that youtube clip showing the vicks/eucalyptus oil combination mixed with boiling water and the click clack inside a larger one and tried that today but still want to get it checked out as it appears to be a later stage of the infection as far as I can tell?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Marty

Isn't David Vella around there somewhere?
I am sure someone else can verify this.

I just found the vet listing on the forum and one of the ones listed is in north rocks which isn't far. Has anyone used them before?

I've used the vet in south penrith when our boy had RI.

David Vella and several other experienced reptile vets practice at the North Shore Veterinary Hospital in Crows Nest. Excellent vets.

OK thanks guys, will try David Vella. Called the one in north rocks but they don't deal with reptiles.

Just out of curiosity how much does a consultation/treatment for RI cost?

Thanks

Marty

Last year my initial consultation was $89, follow up consultations were $69. Antibiotics will cost extra if necessary. Joanne Sheen is also fantastic if David is not available.

Not sure where the Sydney Hills district is but you can also try Alex Rosenwax, a vet specialising in birds & reptiles in Alexandria.
Ph: 93196111

My last appointment with David (about 2 weeks ago) was $90 for the consultation, $41 for the antibiotics and $7.25 for the syringes the antibiotics come in, plus gst.
(infected scale on a shingleback rather than RI, but treatment will be the same, therefore the same price).

There are alot of good vets there, i dont think David does weekends or wednesdays and can be booked out for weeks in advance at times, you're better off seeing someone else that works there, sooner rather than later, if you cant get David.

I saw david vella at the Flemington vet hospital
he is a great person and vet I think he does a lot of exotic reptiles for zoos
I had my bearded dragons out in my living room in the sunshine when my female saw a small battery for a digal temperature gauge shinning in the sun light and decided it looked like food and ate it I knew something was wrong it took me a a little while to figure out what had happen the that day I rang the Flemington vet hospital and david vella saved her and removed it.

David left the flemington one a year or 2 ago, cant remember exactly when. That place had better parking and I preferred the drive there,...but Davids amazing and i would travel anywhere if it meant my critters were seen by him.

Heading out to Penrith today as the guys in Crows Nest were all booked out. Thanks for the advice.

Just an update. Saw the good vet on Saturday. My Stimmie got an injection of Fortum and I took 2 syringes of the antibiotic away with me to give myself on Tuesday and Friday before a follow up appointment next Saturday. Hope the little guy pulls through. Have got his temp around 34 deg, newspaper substrate and he's been in his hide since coming come on Saturday so just got to leave it up to the meds to do their thing.
