Hi all,
I am the register head for reptiles with Wildlife Rescue group ONARR. We are in desperate need of carers for all types of reptiles, and occasionally, frogs.
If you live in the SE QLD area and are interested in becoming a carer, please visit the ONARR website for information on joining.
Carers are volunteers, there is no monetary gain.
You do have to pay a small amount for membership, ($20 I think) but this will cover you under the ONARR rehabilitation permit.
We are aware that people have lives and cannot always carry out a rescue, but the more members we have, the more options I have to get the animal in care. At this point, I don't have enough people willing to take reptiles and many are being left to suffer.
You will be required to pick up the animal if you are able to, and provide a safe, secure temporary home and treatment. You should have access to a vet who is capable with reptiles.
Even if you are able to pick up an animal and hold onto it until another carer can take it over, your help is needed.
The EPA require each animal in care to be registered, which you do by contacting me.
There is minimal paperwork involved, much like our recreational log books. And I am always available to phone for help.
We are also happy to take on anyone looking to become a carer for birds, kangaroos, possums, bats and gliders.

NOTE: A rehabilitation permit does NOT allow you to move reptiles, such as a snake catcher does. Injured animals only can be moved.

I am not online very much but if you have any questions, you can call me on 0404226001.
Cheers,
Shaz

Yeah definitely a good thing i will download the forms and send them off

Bugger... I am sooo willing to do it! :D BUT I'm not 18 :(
What about if you put your parents name on there, but I actually do the caring? Or would that be illigal?
Good luck with whoever does it, every little bit helps!

Printed off Forms and Phone Number Listing... will send Away ASAP....

I can only help with Rescuing or catching wildlife.... As I already have a Zoo at my place.... Maybe down the track I might be able to Care for a few...???

bouncer I live in the sth east qld ,up past gympie ,i am also a licensed snake catcher with a current permit , pm me about the reptile carers details , as i have venomous snake handling skills and am able to help out if needed , I also ,when doing a call out, am able to determin damage done to the snakes in most cases..and offer 1st aid if needed or send them on their way if more in depth care is needed..so would be very interested to help out ..thanks:)

hi mate
my daughter and i are interested in helping out with the retiles and the other animals such as the kangaroos etc.
is this the same thing as WILVOS?
or is that a diferent organisation?
: ) cheers.

You can only care for venomous if you already have a specialist permit. All vens must be passed on to me at this stage as there are no other members with the permit, so if you have one, we would love to have you on board.
The rehabilitation permit does NOT allow anyone to perform relocations. It is to care for injured animals only.
All the details you need are on the website. ONARR is not affiliated with WILVOS, but does the same thing.
