Hi!
I’m new here and looking at setting up an enclosure for a spotted python.
(Hatchling)

I had setup a plastic tub (with clips on both the ends and sides)
Whilst trying to get a consistent temp I found the bottom of the tub would bow and lift up away from the heat mat. This led to poor heat transfer and poor efficiency.
Apart from putting a bunch of heavy rocks in the tub to keep it flat I had a really hard time getting a nice heat gradient in the tub.

I just came across a bargain glass enclosure.

bigger than I’d hoped but still large enough to keep the original plastic tub inside for the moment.
The guy was selling it because his snake died.

he was unable to tell me what from.

id like to disinfect the tank before I set it up.

I was going to wash down with warm soap and water first.
Then planned on cleaning the whole tank with denatured or rubbing alcohol.

this evaporates quickly and leaves little to no residue.

Is there an issue using these products?

will they kill any nasties effectively?

sorry for the long post just want to give you all as much info to answer my questions as possible!

also any advice on dealing with hatchies is greatly appreciated!

ive only ever dealt with much larger snakes.

glass tanks are useless for snakes mate, terrible for holding heat

Dodgy owner, wouldnt risk it

i cant comment on using rubbing alcohol, but bleach would be much for effective

what kind of tub were u using? https://www.rejectshop.com.au/p/storage-box-5l this would be better for a hatchling

Thanks for your reply!
This is what I got https://www.bunnings.com.au/ezy-sto...oSWXHrXBBVRS9CxtkZ0aArukEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

but not as tall. Only 120-150mm high.

everything I read said to have clasps on the sides as well as the ends.

ambient heat isn’t a major issue in my house.

I was just trying to get a nice gradient across the tub.

my plan is to keep the tub inside the glass enclosure until the snake gets larger.

I could counter the bow in the bottom of the tub by contouring the substrate directly over the heat mat.

I undstand glass isn’t a great insulator.
However I’m pretty sure my family are reptiles as the heating/ ac keeps everything pretty constant at around 20 to21 degrees!
