Terracotta hides

For anyone using terracotta hides how do you normally go about cleaning them? Just hot water? Or hot soapy water? I know they are quite porous so just want to make sure I know the best way to do this.

I used to use them, have a few on rotation and use hot soapy water, then the F10 disinfectant stuff... But then ended up throwing them out because my guy would run himself on the side and it hurt one of his scales. I think there's better alternatives.

Thanks Susannah, I have one on the cool side and I'd rather not use it to be honest but he seems to love it so much. I'll keep an eye on things and likely swap it out for something else
