Today was a day I'd hoped would come around again one day but certainly wasn't expecting it today or any time soon... I regretfully sold my breeding quad of Macleay River turtles back in 2016 to focus solely on purvisi. It wasn't an easy let go for me having lived in the upper Macleay valley from 1986 - 2003, dharra hold particular sentimental value for me. Chelodina longicollis and Emydura macquarii dharra were my introduction to turtles and whilst they are by no means anything extraordinary to look at, this tiny species of freshwater turtle is still in a league of its own being the smallest species on the Eastern mainland. The largest female ever recorded came in at 18.5cm SCL. the largest female I ever had was 16cm and the male was 12cm.

I was delivering some ELN hatchies today and saw these and had to have them... They are a subadult immature male and female pair and they are 110% typical of the wild form (colouration and markings) and I am absolutely stoked to have them in my possession. They are spending a week in a 4ft quarantine tank dosed 0.5% with sea salt and API turtle fix broad spectrum medication, (just precautionary), they have no obvious signs of anything undesirable and are in fantastic condition.

In a few years time these 2 will produce some of the smallest and cutest hatchling turtles you'll ever see and I look forward to the journey ahead with these 2 little gems.

Those are some nice looking Macleays! They are great turtles, absolutely filled with personality! Looking forward to seeing some baby turtles as well!
