Thula is the journal of the Australian Invertebrate Forum (AIF) which was established by Greg Bylund to advance
invertebrate research, conservation, captive breeding and husbandry among invertebrate enthusiasts.
Membership to the AIF is open to anyone with an interest in invertebrates. Membership includes subscription
to Thula, a biannual journal of invertebrate biology and husbandry, and is available online through the AIF
website.
The name of the journal has changed from the Australian Invertebrate Forum of Australia Newsletter to Thula
for this second issue published in December 2008. Thula is an aboriginal word from the Kamilaroi (also
spelt as Gamilaraay) language meaning scorpion. Kamilaroi was spoken over a vast area of north-central New
South Wales prior to European colinisation of Australia. Kamilaroi country extended from Murrurundi on the
Great Dividing Range in the south, to Tamworth, Narrabri, Moree, Boggabilla, Mungindi, Collarenebri, Walgett
and Gunnedah. It was felt that a name change was warranted in order to establish the publications unique
identity as an electronic publication focusing on Australian invertebrates.
The preparation of the journal is a collaborative effort. We have people inthe field, editors all over Australia and most importantly AIF members who contribute enthusiasm and posts to the forum. What drives us is the feedback we get from you! You can become more involved simply by emailing or posting your thoughts and ideas about the journal. It is not a static thing and we want it to evolve into something even more substantial and noteworthy. We are already getting more people on board our team each with their own speciality. The more we collaborate the better the project outcome so once again post your thoughts and if you would like to become more deeply involved let us know.
We hope you enjoy our 2 nd journal and you feedback is much appreciated.
