Opposition health spokesman Mark McArdle moved a motion in Parliament last night calling on the Queensland Government to protect the population's health and viability of the state's farmers from Hendra virus.
Mr McArdle said flying foxes carry the disease and should be shot.
"It's humans or bats - it is a life or death question that this state faces," he said.
Opposition spokesman Ray Hopper agreed with Mr McArdle.
"There are people dying out there and this Government is doing nothing," he said.
"We have to make is safe for human beings."
Mr Hopper told ABC Local Radio that flying foxes should be culled because at the moment farmers cannot do anything about them.
"Nothing - they might be allowed to go out and clap, it's just ridiculous," he said.
'I'm not sure where they [the flying foxes] go - you'd have to follow them to find out.
"But you've got to be able to put people before bats...

how Ironic ...its still speculation but KILLING is always an easy answer ...humans carry more viruses and subject to more human tragedy then any other animal on this planet ...typical redneck thinking coming from a typical political fool.

Sorry to the people affected by the virus, but in the end, the bats are native to australia, we arnt.
They only seem to flock where there are suitable trees, shouldnt you move away from the trees if thats the case?
