My son just came home from school with this so I am wondering if anyone knows what it is...

ok so it is what I thought it was I just wasn't sure or not but we have been finding heaps of these for the past 2 days with all the rain we been having.
 
They lay dormant as a pupae for years then for only a short time come out as the beetles :D Within that time the do their business lay eggs then kick the bucket
 
Oh yeah. Rhinocerous Beetle. They make great pets! I have a collection of carcasses that I've found on the roads and in shopping centers and stuff. My Border Collie loves them too, cause they make that "Sheee Sheee" noise when you touch them I spose!
