was having a discussion with some non rep people....
led to a debate...

need to know which of our top 10 venomous would kill a human
the quickest

without medical prevention?....
eg:...your camping...no one to help you...no knowledge of what to do...
so you just die...
yes morbid....but interesting?

what are your ideas?:|

eastern brownwould be the one actuallydepends also on how person reacts with envenomationhow much venomwhere bitten

inland tiapan for sure. How long would it take you to die from a bite with no medical attention?

Spotted python or childrens python without a doubt... I'd suggest that the stimsons is only mild in comparison.

I also think blind snakes are in the top 10 to.

is there a difference between the inland or central tiapan?...in species?

so the Tiapan would be most lethal.....what is second?
could members with the expertise in knowledge do a 1-10 list...
being the most lethal being # 1...
& maybe how long do you have before antivenin would not work?

you people are great thankyou

this is very informative...thankyou callith

just read the web page.....says the information may not be correct
....then clicked on link.....not available ?

G'day guys,

Not really a question that can be definitively answered. Inland Taipans have yet to deliver a fatal bite to a human - people have been bitten and survived several hours before getting medical attention. Some have been envenomated and not needed antivenom and others have received dry bites. Just because they are "the most venomous snake on earth" doesn't mean they are the most lethal or dangerous to humans.

An acute allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) is what is going to kill you in under an hour - the same reaction you can have to bee's, peanuts and seafood. If there was one species I wouldn't want to get bitten by out bush, it would most definitely be a Coastal Taipan. Very rarely, if ever, to they give a non-lethal dose of venom, and it's incredibly fast acting.

With the correct first aid, and medical treatment within 4-6 hours post bite, nearly everyone has a very high chance of survival from an Aussie elapid bite.

Cheers

The fastest snake bite death in Australia was caused by a Eastern Tiger Snake. A snake catcher called Curley Bell was bitten into a vein on his wrist trying to bag a large one. They recken he was dead in 4 minutes. The second fastest death I heard of was caused by a Rough Scaled snake being handled by a very drunk man at Kings Cross in Sydney. It was alledged he died in just over 5 minutes. The next fastest was by a large Coastal Taipan who had bitten a young lad on his buttocks numerous times. It was alledged the boy died in 10 minutes.

The worlds deadliest snake, as far as we are aware has never caused a human death . The second deadliest, the Eastern Brown, has caused many deaths, but owing to its poor bitting mechanisms qiuck deaths are rare. I believe the fastest was a construction worker bitten a Brisbane about 17 years ago, who died in a doctors waiting room just 20 minutes after the bite.

There have been a number of sudden deaths (within minutes) from Eastern brown snakes although the mechanism of death is poorly understood. Its unlikely to be anaphylaxis as that ordinarily requires prior exposure to pre-prime the immune system. Current thoughts include massive activation of the clotting cascade causing circulatory standstill or a cardiac myotoxin causing cardiac arrest. Obviously these are unusual reactions so more research is needed.

The question itself is kind of vague. Its like asking which of ten different firearms are the deadliest - the damage done is not just a factor of the weapon but where it hits you/how many shots are fired/what type of ammunition is loaded/etc./etc. It all depends on which context you are discussing it in.

Having said that, the general consensus is that the Inland taipan is the one likeliest to kill if it envenomates you and you are unable to reach medical assistance.
