Mossman Gorge for Boyd's forest dragons.
The general Daintree area for heaps of stuff, like scrub pythons, cassowaries, prickly forest skinks, Carlia skinks.
Tully Gorge road at night for various things (but famous for scrub pythons).
Lake Eacham (and the surrounding area) for blue-phase common tree snakes, prickly forest skinks, archerfish and turtles in the water, lots of birds, lots of cyclone damage.
I've got some pics from some of these places here:
you might see some jungles too. They are up that way - how lovely to see something as pretty as that in the wild. And the Boyds Forest Dragon would be another bonus I'd love to stumble across.
Enjoy the trip, looking forward to seeing some photos.
Yup, Woolshed, the barn housing the Mad Cow isnt all that bad either (at times).
But seroiusly, just find a patch of scrub and go out at night with your head torch, we've found countless scorps/T's just by CAREFULLY turning over rotten logs, etc.
Even just driving around the tablelands at night can find you some nice herps, a little later in the year would be better though, when the heat picks up
daintree is good for looking.otherwise hire a car and drive at night(kuranda/atherton)is about an hour drive and you will stumble across things there. Go north or south of cairns to the forests and there is always something around.Creeks are also good, just becareful, hire aboat to go croc spotting near and around the inlet.Even go for a walk long the red or blue arrow and you may just come across something. bars, lots of them woolshed for the lonely backpackers at the end of the night.I live here in cairns and there are lot s of places to go so you won't have a problem, cheers
