Hi, its been a while between posts. Just curious to know how what depth will a male and female RBB probe? Has anything been written about probing/sexing elapids?
 
Various between individuals but if you probe over 7 scales usually boy
 
Eippers book, "A guide to Australian Snakes in Captivity: Elapids and Colubrids" mentions females probe between 2-6 scales and males between 5-11 scales.
 
Cheers for that. Saw Eippers on reptilepublications.com last night and figured it must be good with an author like that. I like reads that you can get your teeth into a bit rather than just what to expect if I see them in the wild. Not in a hurry to probe a RBB but just curious.
 
Pseudechis tail shape really easily. Look for the subtle thickening of the tail base just after the vent in males. The females are a gradual taper.

As far as my book goes...I went to great pains to keep it as readable as possible.
