it seems as though these little fellas had died right out of the hobby?
What’s going on?

Cheers

I think they're still pretty popular. Can't speak for what they used to be as I am only relatively new to the hobby but I see them for sale online and in pet shops quite often.

They're still super popular. I see them all the time, and everyone who keeps them seems to love them.

my local pet shop has about 10-15 baby pygmies right now!

What HAS pretty much disappeared from collections and does not seem to be available anymore are Dwarf or Western Bearded dragons and Mitchell's or the North West Bearded Dragon. Both of these used to be quite readily available only 4 or 5 years ago but now seem to be non existent in collections outside of WA. Sad because both species are really neat dragons. Fortunately the Dwarf Bearded Dragon is kept and bred legally in WA so they can be imported from WA which is what I had to do recently. I would love to get hold of some Mitchell's Beardies if anyone knows of anybody who has them.
