Murray River Turtle- advice needed

My boyfriend saved a murray River short neck turtle about 2 years ago from a neighbour that desserted his house and left him there very neglected.
I have now been left with the turtle ( i think male) he has become quite big roughly about 18-20cm in length.
I really want to find him a new home with lots of room, but i don't hold a licence and i am not sure how i go about explainig this without getting a fine etc. Any help appreciated.

If you don't have a licence and you need one in QLD to have them, do you know someone who does who can look for a new owner
Either that or get yourself a licence and dig a pond for it
I am in Vic and I have 2 in a 2mx3mx45cm pond with Goldfish and plants and they are fine. Mine are both about 15cm.
It will be fine in a pond up there.
