Found this bloke out during the day on a track near the Roper River. Yellow belly, faint bar above the eyes. 4-5 foot long. Very quick. Any guesses?

Agree... not sure of the taxonomy nowadays but looks like a top end Western Brown to me.

that was my thinking but the stripe over the eyes is new to me. And you rarely seee them moving around in daytime here.

I was waiting at the Roper Bar crossing for some tourists who drove half way across then stopped to take photos despite the people waiting both sides to cross. Then I saw this cocky a couple of meters away. What a bloke!
He told me all about it and even launched a couple of turds my way.
