Ok. So I've got my hands full with a few neonate tiger snakes. I've been looking at them the last couple of days while burning holes into tubs and going dizzy thinking about how to get them feeding. I have a few mates who are helping which is a bonus but thought of some ideas myself. These guys are pretty small and I think they are a tad small to be taking pinkies, even day olds. There is the option of killing a pregnant female mouse and useing the even smaller babies inside but I see that as a waste of a breeder so I have been thinking about squashing up some pinkies into a liquid mix and squirting that down there gobs until they put on a little size to be taking pinkis on there own. However it seems like a nastey job and I think I've thought of an alternative. I'm wondering would cracking a few eggs whisking them about and using that as a forumla to get them growing work? Can anyone see any problems with this? Should work out cheaper then getting 100 odd pinkis too.

cheers

Mark

PS im just talking normal chook eggs from the supermarket.

Couldn't you just feed them bit's of pinkie mice, chop them in to appropriate sized pieces when their frozen?

I did that last time Kyro and will do it if i have to but as you can imagine it isn't a pretty task.

Funny story, I decaptiaded a pink mouse and force the head into a tiger, my brother was holding an adult childrens python and thought it would be a good idea to offer the body to the childrens python. well I think you can guess the finish to this tale.

curious idea, not sure how well they could swallow a liquid though. could be a easy method if used with a syringe inserted right down their throat.
i have pinky pumped a pair of neonate redbellies who refused assist feeding with the mashed pinkies you described...however the commercially available pinky pump i have would be way too large for a tiger or copperhead i think.

I have a pinki pump too jack. Last time i used it i spray pinki all over the roof. It would be too big for the tigers anyhow and i was planing to get it right down into there gut anyway. Might just try it with two or three and see how they cope.

mark you have like 30 of the little blighters so there is always a differant plan for each if you screw up

yeah, they can be messy things. keep us posted, your egg idea has potential for cheap skates like me

lol jack, must be two of a kind :p

M.punja try fish little mosquito fish should work well youll have to inject the fish with vit D buy it will be cheep and work well ill send you some more info

Chuck a hand full of frozen pinkies and a hand full of white bait into a blender. Attatch a small piece of aquarium air tube to a syringe, cut the end of the air tube on a 45' angle, make the hole in the syringe a touch bigger, water down the pinkie/white bait mix and off you go.

I don't think you'll need to inject vit D, you don't do this with colubrids and i haven't heard of anyone else doing it with elapids. If ur worried on this front i recon just giving UV would work.

Mosquito fish have sharp barbs, i use platys, they breed like rabbits and grow reasonably quick and don't have any sharp spines on them.

When I used to keep tigers, the fussy feeder little ones got a very shallow dish of water with a few guppies in it. Shallow enough that the backs of the fish break the water. The guppies moving around heaps got all of them excited and all ended up being great feeders after doing this a few times.

I am feeding baby browns mouse mush at the moment.I get freshly killed mice put them in a blender and blend them until there a liquid and the use a 1 ml syringe and force feed the mouse mush to the snakes. You can freeze the mouse mush and use it when you need it.

Beef liver is cheap and easy as to force feed as you can cut it to the size you won’t I put some mice or rat brain over it to get them use to the taste of mice or rats . Or you chould try rats tails.

Why did my post go back in time?

Don't be such a miser, get a heap of pinky mice and chop em up. Not real dear when you are using 1 pinky to 4 hatchies.
