So the 4S has been announced and not much is different. A5 Chip and an 8MP camera, what do you guys think?

Anyone going to be selling their IP4 to upgrade? I will definitely make the jump, although it will probably be a bit of a disappointing upgrade, it will allow me to get a higher sale price for when the 5 comes out.

There's really no point, the features on the 4S are just a way to catch up with what the rest of the smart phone market released two years ago. Save your money for the fifth version that'll be released next year. If you really want it though, order it from the US. They expect the cost for the 32gig to be between $199-$249, and the 64gig to be between $299-$349 (brand new.) You'll be looking at $900 upwards for the Australian released model.

haha i was waiting for a thread to pop up :p

i advise you to wait until the release of iPhone 5 in november...yeah thats right one month away.

Iphone 5 review:
Each new day there is new rumors are coming out for iPhone 5 release date. All are predicting iPhone 5 launch date their way. Despite not having official word from Apple, it is being expected that iPhone 5 will be launched in US somewhere between September and October 2011.
As iPhone 5 has not been release in USA, it is hard to predict iPhone 5 release date in Australia. However considering the previous trend, Australians can expect iPhone 5 by a month to two months delay. That means ifiPhone 5 will release in US in September then, Australian iPhone followers can expect it in October or November. Of course we might be wrong. Keeping the figures crossed for now.Update (31-August): suggests that Apple’s next iPhone 5 nears while rumors are already circulating that Apple is expected to unveil a new smartphone later this year, around October. As Apple is to launch its new iOS platform very soon, it’s possible the iOS 5 could arrive first, then the release date of the iPhone 5 should follow suit.
Update (28-July-2011) : Countless rumors have been spreading across the web about iPhone 5 release date in Australia. But today there is something concrete update on iPhone 5 release date. Today so many sources on the web has published news that iPhone 5 is going to launch on 5th September, and Apple is going to launchiPhone 5 on 5 October worldwide. We assume that you are eagerly waiting for iPhone 5 release date for Australia. We promise that we shall keep you update with the iPhone 5 release date for Australia.
so seriously save your money and go the Iphone 5

The 16gb model is $799, the 32B is $899 and the new 64GB is $999.

BTW, those prices you are quoting are to upgrade your phone at the app store if your old one needs a replacement under warranty and you feel the need to upgrade it. Or if you're with verizon and want to upgrade your phone. If I'm wrong then I will be stoked, care to link me to a site selling the standard iphone 4 for under $400 USD? If that's the case I'll look into that for sure. How hard is it to get a US one to work over here?

I'm not TOO fussed by the 4S, but early next year when the 5 comes out, it will be easier to move a 4S so the price jump to a 5 isn't too high.

I actually really want one now, I am guilty of the odd sneaky text while I'm driving on a quiet road, this will be amazing (siri)

Apple - Introducing iPhone 4S - YouTube

I'm sure it would be able to be put onto a regular 4, though.

I'm not all that impressed by the sounds of it; after speaking with our Apple-Guru and reading up on it, ice decided I'm just going to wait for the 5.
The 4 is a great phone, and am more than happy with it.

Why would they release a new phone directly after this one?

That siri thing sound cool but I'll be dubious until I've used it myself. Are you on contract? You might as well just wait for it to run out and get the 5 on a new contract next year.

beats me...but all my gadget geek mates can't wait...personally i'd be happy with a 3GS

I am on a contract, yeah. But I may have a contact that would be able to help me pick up a 4S for the sale price of my 4. The siri thing does look cool, but I am with you on being a bit skeptical about it. It may not work well at all, if it does work it will be awesome, though.

For what it's worth (and a bit off topic) my plan is with optus. $79 a month and I get $900 worth of calls, unlimited mms/txt to any provider, 2gb of data and free fb and a few other sites.

I was with telstra and had an ip4, but I let my mother take over my telstra plan so I could go with optus, as they had a better deal and I was going over my telstra cap with texts. If I had stayed with telstra I'd be close to eligible for an upgrade around this time, but what can ya do :p

iPhone 5 won't be released until late next year now. I'm still with the 3gS, so I'll go up to the 4S because mine is starting to slow down even after a clean up.

Saximus has a point. The iPhone 5 WILL come out, you're right. But it won't be next month. Apple have a bad habit of milking everything for all its worth. I wouldn't be surprised if the 4S was the newest iPhone until October next year.

Look at what they did with the white iPhone, they milked it for AGES by only having the black one available, then the released it and some people were that crazy, they even bought a white one when they had a black one (don't tell me it took almost a year for them to get light issues fixed because of a white piece of glass, lol).

The iPhone 5 is probably close to being ready, but they won't release it until they absolutely have to. It's bad business.

If you're on a plan you're probably close to being able to get it for free, by just extending your contract, because your old phone would be close to paid off. I'm going to ring optus tomorrow and see how much it will cost me to upgrade my handset, and I might sell mine and just use the proceeds to pay my plan.

I don't know why everyone was so surprised by the 4S. We had original iPhone, then iPhone 3G, then 3GS, then 4 now 4S all roughly a year apart. So 5 will be another year away... Then a year afer that the 5S that will have a 10billion megapixel camera on it. :p

I liked the 3g's, the design, i love it. I have an iPhone 4, it's great. A 8 megapixel camera doesn't faze me, I have a DSLR and the 5 chip thing or whatever, no idea what it means, but I know I'll still need to charge it every night.

With the new IOS5 software soon, I'm good. It's looking awesome :)
I'm gonna wait till my contract runs out, and get what will probably be the iPhone 6 by then.

It's like fishing, I won't bother chucking a line in until someone's catching the fish. I won't bother with a brand new 4S until I hear whether it's worth the change to the newer one. But even if they are better, a new camera, doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Well, the US website is full of crap which isn't surprising. They shouldn't be allowed to list their products "from" $199 if that's what it costs to upgrade your phone under warranty. Again, just save your money for the fifth one and download something similar to Edwin (the free version of Siri for Android.) By the time it comes out you should be able to buy it outright and not get ripped off by Optus plans (or Vodaphone/Telstra/Virign plans.)

What prepaid plans are better than what I'm on with optus at the moment? I like mine. I'm jailbroken atm, so I might try to find something like "edwin" or Siri. My camera is pretty good on my phone, it takes stuff like this:

Once the life on my contract is up I'll be going back to Savvytel. I've made a lot of friends overseas and the rates are awesome if you're a texting junkie like me.
