Batanga.... this is a site full of reptile/snake lovers..... with your attitude towards out beloved reptiles, I dont think you belong here.

I eat the usual meats (cow, pork etc) and use leather from those animals, but there is no way I would be buying a snake/crock skin wallet/boots or whatever. I would not kill a reptile/snake to eat or 'drink its blood' just for a thrill or to be cool. Different story if you are marooned on a desert island and you have to eat something. But to brag about killing a snake to drink its blood on a reptile site, is just outrageous. That would be like going on a rat lovers site and bragging you kill rats for snake food. Its just not done!

Longqi, no worries mate, we all know how much work and effort you put into saving/promoting reptiles and your battle against these rrr's soles is admirable :)

I vote Batanga most loved APS member of the year :)
He's a real sweetie.

There is a huge difference between eating meat from a domesticated cow and drinking the blood of a species classified by the IUCN as vulnerable and listed on Appendix II of CITES (Ophiophagus hannah (King Cobra, Hamadryad)). "Vulnerable" means that although the species isn't in danger of going extinct just yet, it could head that way if certain human activities continue. Using the king cobra for "medicinal purposes" is one of those activities.

While acknowledging the argument some make that humans no longer need to eat meat (or wear animal products), eating beef at least answers a basic survival need. How drinking the blood of a king cobra does the same is unfathomable to me. It's a totally unnecessary practice. If 90 percent of patrons at these places are Westerners, there's not even any cultural background for it - not that culture is any excuse either.

Go to Bali to see its live reptiles, not encourage trade in vulnerable species. (That's not directed at you Bundysnake - I really don't think sipping cobra blood is what you had in mind when you posted this thread.)

So it's okay to do it to an animal if you don't like it or have no contact with them at all?
That's a little "pot calling the kettle black" wouldn't you say?

So it would seem you are another person who is giving their opinion when you probably haven't even been to the wildlife parks there?
If you think elephants who still have gaff marks in their legs or howler monkeys who are pulling their own fur out is more humane than a snake being killed within seconds then you have another thing coming. But as I said I bet you haven't been there and just giving an expert opinion from the sideline.

The kings in that place are all captive bred, not wild caught so they aren't taking them from the wild or helping in the decline of the species.

It's common practise to eat cattle, pigs and sheep. They are farmed for this very purpose.
You however are supporting an industry that is unecessary and revolting.
To post this on a site dedicated to reptiles just shows that your IQ matches your shoe size.

Batanga this is a reptile forum you clearly don't care for them that much if you condone this you have even started making excuses for them , none of those views really belong here it was stupid of you to post that link it i don't think it was what the op had in mind i think he like many others here want to see herps alive, not being butchered for our own amusement and pleasure

The kings are also farmed for this purpose, sorry but it's a two way street.
Funny calling me stupid when you can't spell unnecessary

I hate to think exactly what type of reality you all live in. Where meat is tickled to death and then sliced with a rainbow.

It's scary to think that there are mature adults out there who don't think this type of stuff happens.

Just think about it next time you are eating something that was once a living animal, then try to judge others for doing the same thing with a different animal.....I bet it will seem a little hypocritical

My typo takes nothing away from your idiocy.
Please explain what the "purpose" is?

I take offence to that. My IQ is 13 but I didn't post stuff like that.

Are you going to start stamping your feet and chucking a tanty?
The purpose is people want to do it, hence it is there. If there was no market it wouldn't be in business so quite obviously there are people out there like myself who see nothing wrong with it.
You can call me all the names you like, At least I can say I'm not close minded unlike some.

Perhaps you should call PETA?

Are you going to grow a brain and realise that the OP was interested in seeing snakes (live ones),
not watching one being decapitated for some puerile boasting purpose. If you wanted to show off how tough you are you should have chowed down on the head.

if people wanted to kill babies for pleasure cos there was a market for it, would you agree with that too?

Your a fool. and thats putting it really nicely.

What you have basically done is post snakes being killed on a reptile forum. It's like people on here going and posting pics of rats getting eaten by their snakes on a forum for rat lovers, You just don't do it do you. Unless you are just a troll which you must be. You can't seriously think that posting that wouldn't end up in you getting flamed do you!?

Why would you think that I care what a bunch of strangers on a forum think of me?
I love reptiles too but at the same time not as naive to think that it doesn't happen.

I am eating silverside as I am typing this, I guess a lot of you think that's fine though eh?

Peta only cares about cute fluffy kittens and puppies, unfortunately. That it is why it is up to us reptile lovers to try and promote and look after them.

And the problem herein lays with the fact that the OP's thread had been hijacked when all he was merely seeking was "Just wondering if anyone knows where I can go in Bali to see some herps?".

If I'm reading that correctly I don't think Bundysnake would have for one millisecond would have expected a reply like that. I think this whole Cobra debacle was wrongly posted in this thread and either the thread should be locked or that specific post deleted.

It has completely detracted from the OP's original question and is not even relevant.

My thinking would be that if Bundysnake would have wanted to see such "activity" he would have asked about same in a specific thread or googled it.
