ive recently got a pygmy bearded dragon. i want to move it onto something else than newspaper. does their name mean that they are most suited on soil? or can i use sand

thanks

Hey mate ive got a pygmy beardie too, many people use red desert reptile sand or other sorts of sand, never heard about any one using soil though it may create too much humidity. But their name Black Soil Plains dragons does refer to a part of australia that is covered in a very dry and arid place that is covered in this dry soil, i dont think you can buy it though

ok thanks for that mate.
i hear builders cement is also good, that true or should i just stick to washed play sand from bunnings.

thanks again

Builders cement? what? play sand is also good but i prefer the authetic look of red sand , i dont know why

oh i just read somewhere that builders cement is good for digging. probably read wrong aye :S
is red sand available in bulk from bunnings cause ive only seen the special reptile one. im low on cash as im picking up a baby pygmy tomorow :)

yeah builders cement could be toxic if it's what i think it is , it can even cause chemical burns

Get some washed c.o.a.r.s.e river sand.
We have bred heaps of the pygmys and never had a problem.

Builders cement??? I would never take the risk.
