Confused??

Hey just wondering if anyone can tell me why my beardie sits under the heat source with his mouth open?? I would have thought if he was too hot he might move to the cooler end of the enclosure. I tried to give him extra water to drink but still just sits with mouth open. Got me stuffed!!

its hot under the basking spot but he doesnt want to give it up, usually because another beardie will come along and steal it, so he is opening his mouth to increase his surface area, letting more heat out so he can keep his spot without overheating.
