So this is my first attempt at building my own reptile cage. Before anyone gets to excited im a 22 year old female with 0 building abilities and have basically been banned from hammers due to a number of squished fingers. So its not great, but im proud of it :)

It has a heat light, a fluro display light, heat mat, 4 bolts (2 on each outside door) and there are padlocks on the outer doors. I'm paranoid about someone stealing my snake ;)

So this is it:

That looks GREAT! I love the before pic...

So where is a pic of the lucky tennant enjoying the fruits of your labour?

BTW how much ventilation did you build into it?

AND is it your helmet in the before shot??? 8)

The middle door has the bottom panel as mesh, so that whole area is ventilation :) as well as a few holes in the ceiling where i drilled the holes in the wrong place etc :p And no, that isn't my helmet, lol, I brought the cupboard off a guy and they were the photos he sent me ;) I still need to find more plants, all the ones in there are fake as my snake likes to destroy all live plants in her cage, getting good quality fake plants that dont cost an arm or a leg are hard to come by

This is the occupant :) Amber (though sex is unknown so it may eventually have to change to Andy) She is 6-7ft long coastal carpet, around 7 years old :)

Amber looks great.

Not sure if the more experienced members would agree but I would look at the amount of ventilation you have in the top and maybe get someone to help you insert one of the plastic rectangular vents... just a thought.

very nice! should be proud of it. much better than its first intended use haha :)

For the mesh go to a place that makes shower doors and screen doors they may have some off cuts you can get cheap. I used the security mesh for the lid of my tank which is that crim safe type made of stainless steel.

The mesh is the proper crimsafe stuff, my father got it as an off cut I think, its really smooth so she can't hurt her nose on it if she rubs. Not sure how much he paid for it sorry. And yup, working on getting the ventilation and such sorted out, seems to be working ok atm, but the plan is to add a bit more in the not to distant future :) and well as adding more plants and a hide up on the top shelf that she can't push off :)

your better off with holes in the bottom of one side then the top off opposite side so you get cross ventilation. Nice job and if snake continues growing id guess a girlie. an easy way to tell with large pythons is bend her tail up a little to expose her cloaca and press lightly on her back just above and slightly in front towards her head if its a boy his hemipenes should pop out if girl you will still get a small pop out but they will be blunt on end and only very short. i have sexed large pythons down to hatchling childreni and only been wrong once in 15 years so its a very reliable system especially when they are older

You did well, looks good I'm not a big fan of hammers.....but nail guns are a different story !

Looks great one lucky snake, might just need some ventilation vents in it.
