A few keepers have asked me about why Rodentfarm rat weights are different to some other breeders sizes. We decided on our weight ranges based on the feed requirement of our many end users. Generally the weight range for feed items needs to be less on smaller items than it does for larger items. It works out to be the average weight plus or minus about 20% so the range ends up being larger on larger food items. If you are feeding an animal as thick as your arm it doesnt really matter if the food item is 250 or 450 grams (a variation of 200 grams) because that animal can handle larger variation in food size. On the other hand an animal as thick as your finger needs a smaller variation in the size of the food item, say 20-50 grams (a variation of only 30 grams) Accordingly Rodentfarm has more of, and more accurate sizing in the smaller food sizes than in larger food items. because that is what matters. Rodentfarm has a much larger range of food sizes and types between rats, mice, quail, rabbits and chickens so there is always the perfect food size available.
The other difference is that Rodentfarm actually weighs the food items at packing instead of going by eye so what you buy is what you get. We aim to reliably supply consistent sizing.
If you have any suggestion regarding additional food sizes or types feel free to post.
