Hello fellow Aussies,:D

I would like some advice. Could you recommend which Harold Cogger book is the best? I have been looking around some, but have never seen any of his books. I ran across a thread on here awhile back that mentioned his name, & jotted it down.
His books are out of print now, correct? Do they have alot of pictures of Pogona Barbatas & Pogona Vitticeps?
Thanks for any input you can give to me.

6th edition, "Reptiles & Amphibians of Australia" published in 2000

green cover with a green tree python

havent got one myself, they sell used on eBay for round the 600$ mark

"Coggers" are an old field guide that, although still having some useful keys for some genus, is essentially out of date. It's more of a collectors item for herpers.

I wonder how many took it in the field........more a coffee table book in size!!

We used to take several of them to the Simpson Desert on desert trips. They also doubled as flower presses for plant specimens.

Funny you should say that as yesterday I got my 4th Edition (1986) out to check what year it was and a pressed flower did fall out! Not sure how it got there or for how long it had been there. Of course these great tombs have been carried everywhere-my copy circumnavigated Australia after I bought it in 1989. The point I was trying to make (but clearly unsucessfully) was that these cant easily be carried into the field. Not exactly a back pocket job.

Hello

Hello!

Thanks for all of the input. I will keep that in mind. It just sounded like an interesting book, & full of pictures & information.
So does it have a good amount of bearded dragon pics also?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. :D

I'm curious guys, My inlaws had an old copy lying around which they gave me recently. It appears to be a first edition in mind condition (has a milii on the cover). Any idea what this might be worth? Purely for insurance puposes of course :D

$150 to $250, and if you want a book on beardies there are much better and cheaper alternatives.

I think there is only one photo for each species in "Reptiles & Amphibians of Australia" published in 2000. I'm not sure about his other books though. You would be better of getting a book more specific to bearded dragons.

Hello

Hello,

Oh ok, thanks. I do have a few books of Bearded dragons, but they don't feature much in the way of Barbatas. Could you direct me to a book that would have more information about Pogona Barbata please, if there is one in Australia perhaps?

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

Nothing really comes to mind specialising on P. barbata..... they are pretty much the same a P . vitticeps really, grow a bit bigger, live in a different area, and look fractionally different.
