Hi there looking for some specialist knowledge..

Recently lined and insulated the herp room -a typical fibro cement garage with gabled roof. I've put in a ceiling to separate the roof space. This is vented with a whirly bird. I can remove large panels in the ceiling to allow hot air to vent straight to the whirly bird if need be. Closed up it is working extremely well to keep in the heat for winter.

My next task is to prepare for the hot weather. My current plan is to have an extractor fan set up high to vent the hot air out on moderately warm days. However I'm also wanting to put in an airconditioner (I've got a spare portable one ) for when it gets really hot and this is where I need advice.

What kind of thermostat will switch on the fan but then switch it off and then switch on the a/c instead? I dont want the extractor fan on with the a/c. Clearly it will need to be able to manage the high wattage of the a/c. Ideally I'd want the extractor fan on a variable thermostat ie start off slow and go faster the hotter it gets, but the a/c level I think I can manage on the portable one stored away.

Any advice would be most appreciated
