Just got a Bearded Dragon the other day from a friend who just no longer has the time. I named him Falkor, after the dragon in Neverending Story

I know he's a male, my friend guesstimates he is about 6-7 years old. He came to me on sand, but I'm going to switch him out to tiles. He seems quite happy, sleeps very well, has eaten and defecated regularly (found out he loves Basil, which is good - I have 4 Basil plants!!). He loves strawberries and mealworms, those are his all time favorites!! He has been eating a Spring Mix salad (greens and spinach, with some spinach taken out) and dusted crickets and mealworms (All previously fed to him... we are currently trying some different, healthier greens. I also want to switch from crickets to roaches, if he likes them). Any tips/advice/anything is appreciated, he is my first!! Thanks ya'll!

Hi and welcome to APS,I wouldn't suggest to change to tiles due to the claws beardies have, they also like to dig and 'modify' their substrate.Good luck to you and your boy.

Healthy looking beardie! As mentioned, tiles aren't a great idea, having a hard surface that they are constantly walking on can deform their feet/claws.

Personally I like the look of the enclosure as it is, it will also help keep him relaxed as there aren't many places in the wild that are tiled ;-)

Hello and welcome :) You have a beautiful beardie there :D

I agree with the above posts, don't switch to tiles. I've kept my beardies on sand for around 7-8 years with absolutely no problems :)

I'm another advocate for keeping on sand. Flat surfaces are not so good for them.

He looks very handsome!

Hello,

I keep my guys on breeders choice. It osnt natural looking but keeps smell to a minimum and is very easy to spot clean.
I use big slate rocks to keep the claws down and for basking warmth.
