How hot do heat cords get?

i originally had it direct on the cord, but they seemed to spend most of their time on top of the hide, when i raised the tubs a fraction they were on the floor and in the hide more, (50w cord, 3 strands) they seem happier now its more diffused, but if yours seem happy thats all that matters, as we all know 101 ways to achieve the same result, and as long as you have happy healthy snakes thats all that matters,
 
I just did a little test in a tub filled with about 4cm of sand, and after half an hour it has taken the temp of the sand to 22 (its 16 in a tub without heating). So it seems to be doing a pretty good job at distributing the heat. I'll keep it on and see what happens over the next few hours...
