Possibly a Northern Shovel-nosed Snake

Brachyurophis species. Probably B.semifasciatus I'd reckon...but I'm not an expert on the small elapids of the far north. Cheers RON
 
Thank you. Can anyone direct me to some info on them? It definitely burrowed into the grass after this pic was taken, that's why there is only one.

Concur with last ID. A wide spread species from sub-humid inland to arid areas. Burrowing into soil cracks, insect burrows, under rocks and logs or stumps. Found in a variety of soil types with differing vegetation from coastal heath and low banksia on pale sands, to heavy loams supporting acacia to sandridges supporting hummock grasses. They are thought to feed exclusively on suitably sized lizard and snake eggs.

That's all I could find in my books here.
