this is just out of bundy what do you think made it?

it was a bit over a meter tall and the hole was at least 90cm deep.

i know that there are a number of termite specialists, but i was under the impression that they generally brake up the mound not hollow it entire thing out, i was thinking it could have been a nesting site but then i have never seen a monitors nest lol.

As long as they keep getting a feed and they're hungry they'll keep going and revisiting. It takes a whole lot of termites to fill your self up! And i've seen some indigenous boys dig an echidna out of the base of an intact termite mound.

You could also consider that a larger animal may have made the initial hole through the harder outside layer and then other animals have moved in and extended it.
