This is a neat little ant-mimicking mantid Gyromantis sp. (Amorphoscelidae: Paraoxypilinae) that utilises burned tree trunks to ambush prey. It's only 2cm long, wingless and almost invisible against charred tree bark.

Wow very cool. It's interesting that this thing has evolved to look like charred trees. That must mean there have been consistent bushfires in their locality for quite a while...?
