most ppl use it has a day thing. I've seen different herps living in these 24/7, but it all comes down to what you want to put in it really.
 
i've seen things like diamonds in this sort of thing, you gotta take intoaccount where the animal is found. Thatcage would have a lot of ventiliation and not keep the heat in, more through a basking spot.

i've also seen beardies in this sort of thing.....
 
I wouldn't keep any animal in this permanently, except maybe insects, but I don't keep those. Most (if not all) reptiles would rub their snout quite severely if housed in those permanently. I find them more just an effective way to give dragons exposure to natural UV light.

I personally wouldn't use them at all for lizards, as Simon said they would probably make good enclosures for insects such as spiny leaf insects and maybe frogs.
