I'm a keen motorcycle rider and so are many of my mates, who, many of them I've met through a bike forum.

The bloke who runs the forum organises (with some support a few businesses and a magazine that is active in our bike culture) an annual event, which started a few years back as a weekend ride to a full-scale weekend show that is held on an airfield in Northern NSW.

This years event, due to exceptionally poor weather saw a much lower then expected crowd through the gates, leaving the organiser around $40000 in debt.********

On his way to this event, a bloke, riding with a group of his mates from Perth to Casino (Northern NSW, Event location) was taken out by a car in Mudgee, killing him. He was 29, married, a young child and his wife is pregnant.*******

Many of the forum members have taken it upon themselves to ensure that the forum organiser gets back the money he has lost buy organising competitions, donating prizes etc.

These same forum members have also begun a fund to go the the widowed family. This fund has been boosted by donations, members auctioning off items such as Pythons, Motorbikes and any other items of value. A charity ride to raise money for the family is also being organised. The ride is likely to start from Brisbane through Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and finally to Perth.

Every single person who has had something to offer is your everyday, working class person. No wealthy business owners or property tycoons. Many of them either out of work or struggling as a result of the rediculious global economic panic that has started to grip our nation.

I just wanted to briefly share this story. With the amount of ****ty stories that society is bombarded with on a daily basis, its refreshing to know that there are still people out there, no matter what their walk of life may consist of, still have the heart and mind to help others where thay can.

Thanks Alive for sharing that here. I'd been toying wth the idea myself but you know more of the background than I do.

Over the last couple of weeks that site has done a lot to counter my cynicism about forums, and most importantly about people. They're a wonderful bunch or warm and generous souls.

its good to see theres still good ppl out there, they are just getting harder to find

Its great to see something so greast came come from such a tragedy.... Im sure not only the biker families but many from all walks of life are coming forward with all sorts of help...

Thanks for sharing

All walks of life, certainly. They / we aren't bikies in the MC (Outlawed bikie gangs) sence, just a LARGE group of modified sportbike fanatics.

Pic is from a weekend on the bikes through the NSW high country last November.

Thanks for sharing that mate, a damn tragic story and my condolences to that fella's family, it is good to see everyone chipping in and helping.

I have to say, your average joe blow, like most of us here, are the ones that stand up in times of need and help out not only our mates but a lot of the time people we don't even know.

I share your passion, not so much with the modified bikes, but with the muscle car scene, we're pretty much the same in our love for classic machinery. (There's some pretty hot looking rides in that pic!)

My parents are bike riders, every April my mum goes off on her Harley over Australia (last 2yrs were to Darwin) to raise money for charities, primarily Prosate Cancer.
Id love to do it one day....
