Hello from SilkwormCity!!

We are moving to New Zealand and will no longer be able to breed silkworms :(

So - we have 10,000 silkworm eggs to sell for hatching next year (@ Sep 2008). These come from excellent stock - raised over a period of 5 years - very good success rate at all stages from hatching, then to cocoons and moths.

To give you an idea of what they are worth - our selling prices this year have been as follows :
$15 per 100 eggs
$10 per 50 small silkworms (1cm)
$10 per 30 medium silkworms (2cm)
$10 per 20 large silkworms (3cm)
We charged $10 for express post - which just covered the cost of a box up to 500g (4 tubs).

So for this quantity of eggs - you are looking at potential sales of $1,500 to $5,000 depending whether you sold them as eggs or the larger size silkworms. Not to mention the ones you can raise - like we did - for your own beardies (or frogs, geckos).

Some important points :
1. This would be an opportunity for someone in South East Queensland as we are not able to ship them as they need to remain refridgerated. If you are seriously interested and live in another state - you will need to organise your own shipping.
2. You need easy access to mulberry leaves - there are heaps of tales of other leaves they eat - but I have not personally heard of anyone successfully doing this.
3. Also included are all our plastic tubs & containers (@ 20), a round tub for hatchlings and the master copy of our A4 full colour double sided lifecycle/care sheet - we send one of these to each buyer.
4. We are only interested (at this stage) in offering the whole lot as a going concern.

This was our first big year of selling silkworms and have been really amazed at the interest and level of sales - APS has been fantastic. Initially we were aiming at raising enough to buy a girl beardie, but our sales quickly surpassed that! This is a great part-time "business" for someone with the interest and time.

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Cheers

Petr
