Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the smallest turtle out of those that can be kept
with a class 1 licence (listed below), and how big they grow? I'm
considering getting one but don't have much space. I know this isn't
the best way to choose a pet but if anyone can help that would be
great! You'd be suprised how little information Google has on the subject...
Cann's Snake-necked turtle
Snake necked Turtle
Oblong Turtle
Northern Snapping turtle
Saw-shelled turtle
Mary River turtle
Murray Short-necked turtle
Macleay River turtle
Sydney basin turtle
Emmott's Short-necked turtle
Hunter River turtle
Krefft's short-necked turtle
Brisbane River turtle
Northern snake-necked turtle
Thanks!

Would be easier if you gave us scientific names, then i could look back over my feild guide for you.

Ok, scientific names in the same order.
Chelodina canni
Chelodina longicollis
Chelodina oblonga
Elseya dentata
Elseya latisternum
Elusor macrurus
Emydura macquarii
Emydura macquarii dharra
Emydura macquarii dharuk
Emydura macquarii emmotti
Emydura macquarii gunabarra
Emydura macquarii kreffti
Emydura macquarii signata

From what I've researched Mcleay's are the smallest

Correct me if i'm wrong.

However they still need a minimum 6 foot tank as an indoor enclosure/tank (when fully grown)

Emydura macquarii dharra

Chelodina canni at 22 cms have the smallest carapace size according to stephen swanson

make sure you add another 22cms for a long bitey neck lol.
I would go for one of the emydura.

Can you keep them in an outdoor enclosure (like an
avery) during the day, and put them in a smaller tank
at night?

Could you keep them in an outdoor enclosure during the
day, and move them into a smaller tank at night? (Just your
opinion.)

You could but you wouldn't have a particularly happy turtle. Again why would you need ot do that? If the aviary is suitable why not just keep them/it in that?

all of my turtles are keeped out side . i think u may find that if u house it inside at night and take it out durring the day , the turtle will get stressed - wont eat , and even die over a long period of time.

Yes why dont you just keep it outdoors period. That way you could get a larger and more common species (ie cheaper) and have it live happily...
