BAHAHAAAAAAAHAAAHAAAAAA...........One metre Tall and its a killer.............some people need to harden up ...........I bet that"BONES"felt really manly taking on a wee wallaby ,,belting it around the head a few times...but in the end his 6 year old son came to his older brothers and fathers rescue.....classic "thinks Bindi and Robert Irwin need to show "BONES" how to handle little wee killer wallabies............:)

OMG - I found ANOTHER story...

http://www.cairns.com.au/article/2008/09/04/6741_local-news.html

POLICE had to use capsicum spray to subdue a rampant possum terrorising a family in their home.

What's going on here Australia? Some teenage mutant ninja marsupials going on out there?

The last line...

"The possum remains at large."

BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

If you see a 40cm tall, plump bushy tailed possum running round, call the police quickly. He's attacked once he'll attack again....

LMAO........Could it be put down to "global warming"?....................always wears shorts lol so does punja only he is playing with eastern browns and tiger snakes:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

It sounds as though the Cairns Post is a fine publication.... Almost as good as the Townsville Bulletin....

So when you say almost as good - do you have the headlines like PossScum and Randicoots?

I'm waiting for Betkong... A giant hopping marsupial that scales tall buildings eating aircraft....

Killer Quolls on the loose....

i'll agree with you that the possum story is just plain nuts, but i dont think its appropriate for you to mock that family over the wallaby incident. they are powerful and dangerous animals, yes easily disposed of with a weapon but to a small child they are deadly. a kick to the stomach can easily disembowl an adult, and a kick from a large enough animal could break bones. not to mention the teeth, ever been bitten by one of them? not fun. yes and adult could easily fight off an aggressive wallaby, but think of that poor kid, only 6 years old and the same height as him? Thats equivalent to an adult human facing off with a red or gray kangaroo, and i know you've all heard the stories of how dangerous they are. coming from people on a forum that encourages respect and understanding, your behaviour leaves little to be envied.

Yes that possum could be going for nuts, you're right... But I thought they preferred fruit.

Yes, roos and wallabies are dangerous - but should they be shot?

Adequate warning signs should be all that is required.

I'm waiting for someone to say "But they're on our land."

No one has been killed and with safety signs included I don't see what the issue is. A horse could do more damage to a 9 year old than a wallaby - yet we don't seem to stress about them as much.

How about dogs - I am sure a dog could do more damage to a 9 year old too....

Wallabies and ALL wild animals should always be admired at afar - no way should you feed them (which is illegal anyway).

And to think I am mocking this family... Oh no! My friends son was attacked by an overly friendly sheep... I've seen it happen - and if you have some common sense you'd NEVER say "Someone should get a gun and shoot the buggers," What a load of codswollap.

That is the comment that deserves mocking!

That's why the bush and the animals therin are not a babysitting service. If your kid is small enough to get mauled by a wallaby maybe you should be keeping an eye on him?

If they are used to being fed etc. they would probably be an ongoing danger and the best option would be to eat the animal/s. If it was just a freak encounter where they wernt used to humans then they should be left alone IMO(i seriously doubt it would be that later).

He was there to look after him hence no serious injury.

cris??? Eat the animals??? What are you on?

One Wallabeast comes at a 9 year old now we gotta kill them all? That's crazy talk! :p

I said animal/s to indicate possibly only 1 the offending animal. Its just a wallaby, they probably taste just as good as roo.

The kid wasn't feeding the wallaby. He was feeding the horse and it came up to him.

But yeah, the drama and Slim6y's comments sure made me laugh... "Possum remains at large", *snort*

"This big [wallaby] came out and Morgan started to run and he started chasing him, making this roaring noise," Mr Bailey said

:shock::shock:Since when do Wallabies "roar" ???

I thought it was the kid roaring when I first read it.

I've heard them hiss (usually at each other).

I think what they have here is a case of mistaken identity. I think they misjudged the whole situation and had stumbled upon White Rock's lion safari....

ROFL at the image of this terrified kid roaring at a charging wallabeast...:lol::lol:

Hahaha whats the world coming to, killer wallabies? and a possum at-large? HA!
They make out that the wallabies are just out on a mission to kill everyone they see. Along with all the killer snakes (especially those water pythons!)
Yeah wallabies can do damage, kill, maybe, dont see it happning though, once teh kid had fallen over and just lay there im sure it wouldn't be able to keep kicking etc, and wouldn't bother, unless it wanted to eat him, which will be in the next headline, "Wallabeasts Eats Local Man" last seen heading up to an area populated by Wallabies, hasn't been seen in 24 hours.

I have the image of a wallaby chasing a kid with the roar sound effect of the T-Rex from Jurassic Park in my head !

Then police grabbed one of the kids' toy rake and chased the possum away

Clearly if such specialised weapons as plastic sticks are required to control these beasts then we have a problem on our hands.

Has everyone but the herpers in this country gone nuts? Hiding in a car from a bloody possum?

Mark always wears shorts and the possum jumped on his leg and sank in the claws and teeth

Ah, here is the real problem, it was a possum cross werewolf, we need to get a bunch of silver bullets and shoot all the possums in the country, they have made it clear its either us or them

LOL I have some friends in Canada and they have similar problems... But with GRIZZLY BEARS!!!!!!!!!!

I mean c'mon - I though Aussies were supposed to be hard? That kind of reaction is excusable when faced with an 8 foot tall creature that can rip your head off with one swipe, but with a 2 foot herbivore who would struggle to gnaw off a toe? That's a bit wussy!
