hi there
i have been workng in babinda south of cairns and we have had 2 encounters in the water with snake 1. two snake in the water one attempting to eat a cat fish a third of its size
2. sitting amongst the reo around a bridge pilon hunting fish

on bot occasions the snakes were 50-60 cm long ,able to stay under water for approx 5 min almost tiger like pattern on the sides and a very distinctive beige line/belly ,small head maybe half the size of the thickest part of its belly
can you tell me what sort of snake this is , and is it poisonous
cheers

Did they look like this?

possibly the head seems to large and i cant tell from the picture but it had very obvious beige sides, when it moved on land it moved like a side winder and jumped, it looked much more at home in the water
