seen or side of road in wheat belt Mid West (early morning) wanted to get better photo but was afraid it would take off ..:| I thought It was big but 2km down road was another one which was a lot larger. I'm thinking King brown (mulga)

My guess would be a Brown too, but im no expert either! LOL :)
 
it looks like a dugite or western brown Pseudechis nuchalis it seems to have to much dark red outlines to be a mulga snake.
 
Yep, nice Mulga. Where are you? Ive seen the odd Mulga and plenty of Gwardar around the Bruce Rock area. The browns seem to have adjusted quite well to the wheat situation but i havent seen the Mulgas anywhere but in reserves.

Dabool,

Colouration means nothing, especially with regards to most large elapids. The dorsally compressed body shape, plus the dark edged scales point directly to P.australis.
