hi all, just have a question. i have a bredli about 6 months old in a 52L plastic tub. i have have a heat mat under it for some heat, but it died 2 days ago. i didnt worry cause i was expecting my new enclosure today........but due to daren parkers in-ability run run a business it didn't (now 2 weeks late).
back onto topic i now have no way of heating this tank and it gets to about 12 degrees in the mornings here. is this goin to worry my bredli for (hopefuly) another 3 days before my enclosure arrives?

thanks.

If you have another enclosure with other snake(s), you can put the tub on top of the enclosure where the heater is and that should give of good heat.

this is my 1st snake unfortunatly, otherwise that would work nicely

it should be fine, just do not feed it until you have a new heat source. can you rig up a light/ bed lamp or something?.
cheers:)

have a bedside lamp. but im worried about the plastic warping. and also no way to turn it off if gets too hot while im working

also should i just leave her alone for now. i've been trying to handle her to settle her down and stop biting. but i thought maybe if she cold might be best to leave her be

Do you have a heater for your living room or fire place?

nah nothing. just use blankets to keep warm here lol.........thats wat i've done for her to. covered the tub as much as possible still leaving ventilation holes

kazzie do you have a hot water system inside house, if so put tub next to it, check with a thermometer incase of being to hot, its worked for me. cheers steve

The snake should be ok, but it would be a good idea to offer an oppurtunity for the snake to warm itself up at least once each day. You can do this by either letting the snake bask out in the sun for an hour or two, or place a hide on top of your vcr/dvd player (or anything that is warm) and let the snake stay there for a little while, keep an eye on him though to make sure he doesn't wander off.

cool thanx alot. was just worried. i dont want to stress or upset her.

just keep in mind that your snake isn't going to die without a heat source. my little one has gone without heat for a month or two and shes perfectly fine. so if your worried about over doing it just don't do it untill you get your proper heat source.

lol goin to use my modem as a heat mat! its flat and is about the same heat output as the mat.
nice idea mrbredli

If your snake gets a respiratory infection due to the constant cold temps (which is quite likely), if left untreated, then your snake will die.

Is the snake going to be in direct contact with the modem? Just keep in mind the risk of electrocution (particularly if the snake were to defecate on it) when you're deciding how to use it.

nah i put a small amount of aspen down and put the modem under a corner of the tub so outside of it and just enough to heat a corner

keep in mind that this is only temporary untill he sets up his proper heat source. i couldnt imagine much damage being done over a few days.

Indeed, however i was actually talking about your python. No heat for 1-2 months can be quite dangerous, depending on just how low the temps are.
