A voice came up from the aviaries..." SAAAAAAMMMM"... I went down to find o/h standing outside the Red Rump aviary. "Quick, check this guy out!! " Needless to say, I grabbed the camera so I could share. It was approx 3 ft long & had squeezed in through the wire but the addition of a mouse or two & he had trapped himself. I held the door open while he politely left! Beautiful.....

Good thing he took the mice and not your birds! Good pic, especially the first one.

Thats awsome! that was really lucky that you got to see him in your yard!

We have lots of Brown snakes, Tigers & Red Bellies around here. The Browns don't seem to eat the birds, they stick to mice but the Tigers are partial to our birds, particularly canaries, lol!
When I let him out, I followed him. Just so I know where he hangs out & where we shouldn't!

G'day Kakariki,

Where in SA are you? I'm just trying to work out where Tigers, Red Bellies and Browns occur all in the same area down there. I know in the Barossa we had tons of Browns and the occassional Red Belly but never any Tigers

Jonno, I am on the edge of Lake Alexandrina. Between Goolwa & Milang. The Red Bellies were frequent swim buddies when we used to swim in the Lake. ( They are still there but the Lake isn't a nice place to swim anymore)

Could anyone give me an idea how old this brown is?

He was very beautiful and he got my full respect! Not that he showed any interest in us. All he wanted to do was go off & digest his lunch. He is welcome anytime so long as he sticks to mice!

wow, so where was his hiding place, did you get to see his pad at all?

No, I didn't. By the time I had gone around the aviary he had gone. But at least I know roughly where he is. He knew where he was going so I reckon he is a regular visitor.

sam u got the best pic i love the first one its posing for u! hopefully none of ur birds will go missing this wk lol

Hahaha, yeah Lana. He was very obliging! And we have set up the aviaries with no low branches so provided the birds stay up, he wont reach them. The Tiger got the canaries cos they would come down & check him out! Even used to poke their heads down the hole the Tiger came out of! Duh!!
