Hi there

Just watching Outback wlidfe rescue, they said a bite from a perenti is venomous? I didn't think they were?

I know the bite would probably be full of bacteria, but not venomous?

Cheers

yes i seen the same and was shocked when they said a bite was venomous. can someone confirm if this is correct

First ive heard i know theyre septic like all other monitors though. The only venomous lizard i know of is the mexican one.:D

just had a quick read up of coggers 6th edition this dosnt mention anything if this was true im sure it would have been noted by cogger himself i think someone one the show has made a mistake. Also come to think of it on david Attinsbouruoughs life in cold blood the perentie was not mentioned as one of the worlds venemous lizards.:D

technically poisonous is the word, its the bacteria in their saliva. technically a bearded dragons saliva is poisonous, but the worst it will do is a rash or infection.... if anything.

aparantly they found that the komodo dragon is also venomous. I've also heard beardies are venomous though so who knows

but they lack an appropriate means of using it. eg. venom glands.. etc.

if it was a poison then it shouldn't have any effect unless swallowed. Poisons aren't supposed to have any effect to blood or skin.

Is it actual venom or just the bacteria in their saliva which just causes an infection once in the wound?

i can't imagine venomdoc mistaking venom with poison or bactiria

yeah matt i agree. If the perentie was venemous it would have been officially noted by now But the perentie does not have venom glands its mouth is bacterial and septic completley different to being venomous.

i dont think there venomous its just bacteria im pretty sure, i dont think that there are any venomous reptiles in australia

soooo i take it if it hasn't been discovered or learnt by now it's not possible?

interesting

I'm not saying it defidently is or isn't, I wouldn't have the faintest, I certainly haven't gone to school to study this sort of stuff and wouldn't even know what to call this sort of study. All i know is that with new technology becoming available we are discovering and learning lots more about the world and everything on it and I'm not going to rule out the posibility that perenties aren't venomous just because it hasn't been documented yet.

Just because it could be venomous doesn't mean it has to be deadly venomous. Could it not be possible that the effect their venom has on humans is cloaked by the effects of the bacteria?

As far as i knew only the Gila Monster from Mexico is poisonous, correct me if wrong....

Maybe even the Venomdoc has said venomous without even thinking of his word choice, but im not gunna say that perenties arent venomous because I honestly dont know, I guess its up for study.

Pythons73 there are two known species or venomous lizards...the Gila Monster Heloderma suspectum and the Bearded Lizard Heloderma horridum

Yes they are venomous, go to www.venomdoc.com to read more. Even though they are venomous the main danger is the actual phisical damage they can do.

Its only fairly recently that this was found out, so many still are sticking with their old books with incorrect info.
