Not sure about being under weight - he eats constantly but doesn't look as chunky as some bobbys - he's not mine though but we were wondering if its lacking pigment.

Yeah, I was going to say that too, he looks extremely underweight! Almost like a weird alien, almost didn't recognise what it was (as I know them more commonly as shinglebacks). What is it's story if you don't mind me asking?

EDIT: Sorry, internet was being unusually slow with processing my reply, hence already answered lol....kinda...

No real story WC Perth hills form, took a number of months to start eating but eats really well now so it may take a season to build up condition. Does have one strange habit of slowly poking out its tongue but aside from the look of conditioning behaves normally.

the slowly poking out his tounge! thats normall for shingies:p..i had like 5 of them when i lived in adelaide for a bit! they awsome lizards!! ey! he might be sick! if his tounge is a really pale blue thats a sign of sickness u could look for..but if he;s behaving well n eating thats sweet..ill add again..mad colours.cant get over it..i whant one again now!

Haha all good. I wasn't saying it wasnt a true story lol... Dont worry, I was more asking for more info on it and how it came to be etc... which you have just answered. ;)

Very nice looking regardless of hypo or not. I hope he starts putting some weight on now he's eating.

its not hypo, a severely underweight Common Shingleback (T. rugosa rugosa • Gray, 1845)

from Western Aus around Perth.

There are a lot of orange headed Bobtails but this is significantly lighter than any of the ones I've observed either in the wild or in WA collections, which is why I was wondering about the hypomelanistic. The head is lite cream not orange

Why argue with the answers when you have asked a question??? I don't think it is a hypo just sickly. How has it come to be in your collection if it is a wild animal??

stencorp69,

I think its a stunning looking shingleback.
However i wouldn't bother using the hypo
label.

You could easily call 99% of just about
any population "hypo" on the grounds
that other animals exist that are darker
thats all it takes..which is why i think the
usage of the label isn't worth much.

Not to degrade that animal at all btw.
