I have been meaning to open an account for a long time now & since it is now costing me $105 (incl export permit but not including, petrol, tolls, packaging etc & not to mention the 4 hr round trip!) it was a good enough excuse to fill out my application & send it in, only to be told the lady I have been dealing with no longer handles live animal accounts & passed me onto someone else only to be told that Startrack are taking over & increasing rates, reshuffling their system & are no longer accepting accounts unless you plan to spend more than $5000 per year! what a joke!

I am interested to hear from people that currently have an account, have you been given any notice of the changes? if not apparently you can expect your account to be cancelled & reverted to over the counter rates within the next 3 months.

Freighting is beginning to be all to hard,..

Ummmm... what is AAE?

Australian Air Express. Basically the only company that people use to freight herps interstate.

Definitely sounds like it's getting all too hard, especially when you consider how much getting import/export permits sucks in NSW. I feel for you guys who breed on a largish scale and who rely on export to move your animals.

I've tried on and off for years to get an account with AAE and each time they said that to get an account you will need to use it a lot more to be eligible 40 to 50 is not enough.Kelly maybe if a few of us combined to bring volumes up we might be able to get around it?

Setup an aussie pythons AAE account. Book and pay via paypal on APS. ;)

Have you tried calling them back and speaking to someone else Kel?

They are usually never on the same page, and you get different answers from different representatives depending on what mood they're in on that day...

However, if this is definitely happening, then freighting reptiles is going to be an even bigger hassle than it already is. Star Track would definitely have their own procedures/protocols in place for freighting animals, so who know what new loops we'll need to jump through after the change...

Hey Pmyers Thats great! I didn't know you could do that!
That could certainly come in handy with half of the questions I get asked :)

Rams, that is not a bad idea!,. depending on how many people we could get on board could be worth looking into.

Sam, I was very quick to jump on the phone & speak to someone else, only to be lead down the exact same path,.

Thanks for the extra info R,. Ill check it out.

Oh would you look at what I found when I Googled it... edson | AAE Solar products now carry the Edson Solar name... don't think it is quite relevent though. Sometimes an anacronym like AAE can mean a host of different things and the first hit may not always be the right one especially when you are looking at something relatively small scale.

Thank you for the clarification from everyone else. It made the op a lot more obvious straight away. Luckily I haven't had to deal with export/import permits but I know that it was going to cost about $80 to get a snake anywhere near delivered to me. But I would think it's not such a big deal as you wouldn't freight the animal until the buyer has paid you in full including transport costs and then paying for it is no big deal really... or am I missing something?

i drove up to qld from nsw to buy my baby, as it worked out cheaper to leave work on a friday arvo drive to qld stay in a formula one for a night and pick up my critter in the morning. Bloody AAE is a joke!

Yeah Gruni buyers pay for everything upfront, but the more we have to charge for shipping, the more hesitant a potential buyer would be to source reptiles from interstate.

Hmm, how is that possible? Every F1 sign I have driven past (in Sydney at least) is approx. $79. The last time I imported some reptiles in from QLD, it cost me $90 inc. permit and container...

Even if QLD F1 offers rooms for less than $40 or so, the cost of staying one night + petrol both ways would definitely exceed having it freighted over..

The wait time and cost of permits into and out of NSW already turns alot of people off...... now freight?!! *sigh*

So from that article, I am assuming that any air frieght will now be handled by Startrack express?... is everyone confused, or just me

I use AAE a couple of times a week on account and i have had no notification of any proceedural changes, only the ownership.

Might be just the push I need to stop wasting my days freighting , it's all ready a costly time consuming night mare ...
