my guys are constipated because i have been over feeding them. I noticed today their bellys looked larger than norm especially around their botom ends and i havent poop scooped for a while. I have given them both 15 min warm baths each, that i must say they seemed to enjoy! and ive double checked all their temps etc. Ive topped the waters up and now hope 4 the best. Captain ratbag ( i think thats your name lol) i wish i had taken your advice sooner....i mite have killed them with kindness! *sigh* i will keep the baths up over the wk end and take them to the vet monday if things havent moved. I am v worried about them....if only there was metimucil 4 snakes!

I feel your pain! I overfed my poor little baby Darwin a few weeks ago, and I found that a nice warm soak (I had him at about 32-34 degrees, with constant supervision), and a light massage worked wonders! I basically held him just a little tighter than normal, so he had to squirm a little bit to get out of my hand, and that did the trick, I've never seen so much poop come out of such a small snake! However, I have noticed he's still constipated still, and I'm having to do that every time I feed him(I've dropped his food size down again, it's been 2 more feeds since then), and I'm hoping that it will clear itself up with time, because I really don't like the idea of having to do that when he's fully grown. If he hasn't pooped on his own after this feed (2 days ago), I'm going to take him to the vet.

I feel for both of you, I thought mine was bound up but it turned out that it was just well hidden in his enclosure, which was a huge relief to me.

I have to say my Mac is a pooping timer, he urrates three days after a feed and then poops within 24hr of that.

Good luck both of you.

Are they close to a shed? They may be holding in and when they shed they will let go.
Just a suggestion tho?
Are your temps high enough to help with digestion?
You could maybe feed quail or a chicken, change in diet can lead to fluid motions, but if they are impacted
this won't help.

Over feeding wont make your snake constipated, They are well adapted to taking large feeds
digesting and defecating providing the heating is adequate for them to do so!
In most cases its more related to dehydration/lack of moisture intake. Revisit your husbandry
and see if there is anything you can change to minimise problems.

If they are big enough and settled enough take them outside and let them have a roam around on the grass one by one .... the movement will help to get things on the move

Have you given them a slink around on the grass? That seems to help as well :)

thanks 4 the tip...will def be taking em out in the yard 2moro.

i have had to adjust the basking temps 4 both....they were not high enough. My best friend is a reptile lover too so thankfully i have her to help me. I guess u learn from your mistakes but omg if these guys dont poop because of me i will be a mess! fingers crossed they **** them selves soon.

thanks so much 4 the advice everyone, i will take it all on board and let u know how we go. Heres hoping a slide in the grass and swim in the bath softens things up 2moro :?

A mate just read the post and suggested hanging them on the line and beating the ****** out of them,

Its ok, I slapped him for you..... he likes to look at them but cant get himself to touch one.... big sook

The big belly should be gone by 24 hours after a feed, 48 max if it was a big feed. I would suggest just dont feed them for about 3 weeks (dont tell them it was me that said that, I dont want your snakes coming after me :lol:) Let nature take its course. Also, chill out! the snakes will pick up on you looking at them and being worried/upset..... that might make them nervous and hang on too? Relaxxxxxx ;)

I dont think a vet trip is warranted unless there is other things wrong with them..... just be patient, keep an eye on them and wait. When you feed them after thier fasting, just feed a nice big feed every 10-14 days, or a smaller feed every 7-10 days.

What Darlyn said is true, snakes need warmth to digest food, otherwise the food can start to rot in thier stomach. So check your temp and humidity (in the enclosure, not you yourself)

Stimigex's advice is spot on too.

You could try putting in a newspaper and a pen? it works for me  hehehehe

Bath them for 30 mins tomorrow then put them on the grass. Stand well back. ;)

I will try 2 relax lol i may be over reacting....but man these critters r waaaay diff 2 kids. speaking of mr 6 yr old suggested we give them a Suppository each! lol i think not (he obviously had a flash back 2 when HE
was constipated.

Do you actually know when the last bowel movement was?

Goodluck Monty!

It's amazing how full their back end can look (even when functioning properly) before giving you a "lovely" surprise

Hope they go on the grass if they've really been holding it for you!

My smallest bredli poos 4 days after a feed every time like clockwork and my big bredli can take weeks to poo..often waits til shed and then when he sheds its like a bombsite its horrible.

I back the slither on the grass as your best bet :) dont feel bad, this happens..
:)

Meal size can cause this problem but not overfeeding. Small meals or feeding too frequently can cause this problem. Youngsters should be fed at 7-10 day intervals whilst larger animals less frequently.
If all else fails a tip I got from a highly reputable breeder was to inject a meal with paraffin oil. (Only a small dose)and wait for nature to take its course. Another bit of advice, if the little thing is constipated STOP feeding for a couple of weeks, adding more to the problem is hardly likely to make things better.

All just in my opinion of course.

Good luck

A Hardened Urate is what usually blocks them.
They prefer to defacate outside their enclosure. Mine hang on untill i put them out.
Follow the advice of Darlyn and MrBredli.
