My coastal has the same routine every time. He starts to hide more gets the milky dull skin, eyes go blue, hides some more then 2 weeks from 1st to last sign he sheds :) he also holds in his poops from the last feed and is always starving and thirsty straight after lol and poops within seconds of loosing the old skin! I leave him alone the entire time apart from changing his water every 2nd day 8)

Your friend obviously didn't spend very much time looking after his animals if he couldn't tell visually.

The visual difference is very obvious on the entire animal, not just the eyes. They look cloudy and washed out, kinda like you're looking at them through a dirty window. That's the best way I know to describe it.

The milky fluids tend to make vibrant colours become dull. This is very noticeable on the ventral scales, and of course the clear spectacle.

Hatchlings tend not to become as "milky' as sub-adult/adults, so they can sometimes shed unexpectedly.

you cant necessarily say that he didn't look after his snakes just cause he didn't know what they looked like when they where about to shed

My diamond python get a milky underbelly And the skin starts to detach drom her belly (little air bubbles) and then her eyes go milky and then she sheds. It take around 5 days during that time she a total cow and real cracks and hisses when every you open the enclosure.

There are hundreds of snake keepers, who keep them alive, but know absolutly nothing about them....
