Or maybe it shouldnt of been born like this, the breeder should of either taken it to the vet of put it down. I remember dropping bricks on newborn chicks if they had a deformity (splade feet ect) when i was young, unfortunately these things do happen.

Rick

I agree Rick, but if he was going to take it he should have taken it to a vet immediately instead of letting it suffer.

Could it be mbd at this young age? Anyway it has been under a UVB 10% light it's whole life, how could I feed it calcium, it won't eat any crickets, or veges at the moment.

take it to the vet, its either a tumor or birth defect in my opinion. they might be able to fix it or maybe not but you won't know till a reptile vet has a look.

wen taking on an animal it is our responsibility to look after them no matter what, if you can not afford a vet give him to someone who can afford a vet or surrender him to a local reptile vet.

sorry if i sound harsh, but i just had one of my dogs bitten by a spider and rushed her to the vet few hundred dollars later and i know i did the right thing and am taking her back on friday to make sure she is ok, she also might need surgery but if i have to sell my soul to the devil to pay for the operation i will, they come first.

MBD shouldnt be that quick to act, as said it would of been from birth.

if you do not have the money to take one beardie to the vet why buy 2 and take on another one knowing it was sick and would need vet care ect

Does anyone known how I should load her with calcium, I've got the powder, but all she will do is drink if I help her with drinking. I've got her directly under the UVB.

YOU REALLY NEED TO TAKE HER TO A HERP-VET.

Ca uptake in a reptile is metabolism limited and you can give TOO MUCH Ca if you are not careful (I am told this can lead to a nasty illness in reptiles). A good herp-vet can guide you and manage her condition and development and will provide appropriate suppliments that are only available on prescription to her get better and to improve her quality of life and lifespan.

I'm sure if you say the area you live , someone here can recommend a good herp-vet to you who is in your area. (A $30 - $40 consult surgery fee will be a great investment if it saves your little dragon and improves her quality of life, even several visits over a period of several months to monitor her progress and condition will be a good investment IMO).

I live in lismore, nsw. Does any one know of a vet around that works with reptiles or a place that adopts sick reptiles?

please take her to a vet, it might just be a tumor which can be removed. or it might her a birth defect which is causing pain and she might need to be put down. you do not know and cause she was born this way i doubt its mbd.

what area r u in as has been said before someone will know a good vet or someone might be able to pick it up and take it to the vet for you as you don't seem to understand.

Evan Kosack at Lennox Head is the best/only herp vet around here. Has an amazing love of lizards too.

Even a regular vet will be able to tell you what this is I bet. Straight in tomorrow mate, you've been told by everyone. But just out of curiosity, why DID you accept this one if it was this ill?

I accepted it because the guy had sold all his other hatchling beardys, and he just assumed there was nothing that can be done for it. I will contact the vet and see if they will take her, but at this point I don't have any money so I can't pay expensive vet bills.

No one's having a go at you mate. Everyone's just concerned about the little guy as you are. It's not your fault he is this way. The breeder you got him off obviously dumped him on you because he couldn't be bothered doing his job right so if anyone is at fault it is the breeder. You probably bought the little guy some extra time as the breeder probably would have snuffed him by the sounds of the guy so you did a good thing. But if you can't afford the vet and don't feel confident looking after a sick animal you could always donate him to a WIRES carer or someone like that. Best of luck and don't let this shake your confidence or interest in reptiles.

Not trying to be rude but why get pets if you cant afford vets I never understand this I always make sure I have atleast $1000 in my vet fund for rainy days and Im not rich but I can afford $5 a week to put aside

If its going to be really expensive and painful for the little critter get it euthanased will cost $60 max

Cathy

+1 Cathy. I put $10 a week away for vet emergencies and $10 a week towards future animals. :)

I know nothing about lizard and can't even begin to guess what is wrong but, if you ever feel your animal is in pain or has a poor quality of life. Humane euthanasia can be free. There are much worse things in life than death. I hope your little dragon is alright. It would be interesting to see what a vet would say. A consultation fee is less than $50 and at least you would know for sure.
