bumble have you thought about using a CHE or heat cord instead? I much prefer them to the red heat globes. LEDs have been great for lighting, but having a dimmer function is important. I've got mine set on the lowest - they're SO bright!

Lawra .... Ok I am still very new to all this but what is a CHE??? I thought about heat cords my problem is that where the enclosure is it's on tiles and not to far from a window I had a lot of trouble early on with holding heat ( finally found a way to )
I agree I am really over seeing red
LEDs like a row of them??
I add pics of the enclosure with and with out red globe and you will see what I mean

CHE is a ceramic heat emitter. LED's are great for lighting if they are setup well....location...dimmer....colours etc. Lawra is a pretty smart cookie :)

hehe thanks MrThumper :)
bumble you should be able to swap your red heat globe for a CHE and it will work the same way, just make sure you set the thermostat up well as those they get HOT! Do you have an IR temp gun? Highly recommended and really comes in handy for reading basking spot temps.

LED strip lights are easily sourced off eBay, I bought 5m for about $20 with adapter and remote to change colour and brightness.

Thanks both of you . CHE sounds like a better way to go think I'll go get one come pay day . Do CHE have wattages like a heat globe 75w,100w,150w or is it one type only ?? IR gun no I don't have cause of the dual probe reader , I take it with the CHE it's something I would need to get to be safe ??
eBay ay I think I'll be having a look once I finish work

bumble yes CHE have different wattages. I think mine's a 50W from memory and with temp gun the highest reading I've taken from it's surface is 210 degrees. In saying that, obviously the ambient temperature around the CHE itself isn't that hot so as long as contact isn't possible (e.g. in your setup it's external) then it's no greater concern than a heat globe.

I bought an IR gun from eBay not too long ago for $14 but as it was discussed on a thread recently (don't remember which one, sorry) that the cheaper ones are good for intermittent use if looked after, but won't last as long as the more expensive brands. I have CHE for one jungle, heat mat for another and heat cord under ceramic tile for my woma and I've found the temp gun has really helped with all three setups so regardless of heat source buying one is highly recommended :)

Oh I just remembered something rather important!!! CHEs cannot be used with plastic light fittings, so better check what yours is made of before swapping over.

Please help me !!

My month old python hatchie wont eat? ive tried all different times of the day... ive tried both pinkie rats and pinkie mice because ive read that jungle pythons sometimes wont eat rats? its been 11 days since hes eaten and im starting to freak out, they breeder i purchased him from said he was a pig to feed before i got him... and i havent had him long at all about a week?? what do i do, even if i leave his food in there he will suss it out than just go hide again?? Please help me, I dont want to have to try force feed him.

ladydj890
If you only had him a week give it a few more days as he/she might not have settled in yet , also check your temps I am still very new to Pythons but that's what I have learned so far, I am sure if I am wrong someone will correct me

Thankyou bumble i figured it may have been due to being unsettled, but I thought I'd better be safe than sorry! And yes Whiskey is my first python so just making sure I am not doing anything wrong =]

Lawra i have a metal fitting and it sits on top of the enclosure so that should be right , I'll let a IR gun first check temps then try a CHE with led vs red globe with led just so F'n over seeing red lol like the rest of the family is

I guess if your really worried get in touch with who ever sold it to you , but again like I said I am

Obligatory questions:

1) What are your temps?

2) Can you post a pic of your enclosure?

3) How many feeds did your jungle have prior to you purchasing it?

The last question is because of the photos on your profile. Letting your hatchie settle into his/her new home for a week before handling/feeding/rubbing on your face/placing on your head is important.
bumble you said nothing wrong :)

Do you not have a thermostat to set a constant heat?

Also, he's not a toy or a domestic pet. Snakes do not like being held, some merely tolerate it more than others.

Please leave your snake alone, at least until you can feed him.

Lawra thanks hun , who says you can't teach a old dog new tricks lol
Silly question ladydj890 but what size is your enclosure ? And the hide cause they need something relative to there current size and hide should be small enough for your JCP to feel secure

Say that again , can't think how many times I have thought yeh he looks clam and active not sleeping get the hook out pick him up and TAG TAG lol but I must admit it's funny cause I can almost count the seconds before he does when his in a chain saw mood and other times I can't get him off me

But lawra is right don't handle till you get at least one good feed in , I didn't handle mine till mid feb 14and got him first week of jan 14

oh and bumble he had fed three times before i purchased him

ladydj890 Good to hear :) I'm sure you'll be able to post pics in the "python feeding" forum before long.

Three times isn't many at all... I'm surprised the breeder sold him so soon. Give him alone time and don't try handling before feeding. Fingers crossed all goes well :)
