I hate the impolite p.ms and emails too. If you don't sign a name I won't reply. A screen name is practically the same as not signing.

I rarely respond to my first name (David) because everyone has called me by my nick for years and years

funnily enough I get called Bung in real life too, as it was a nick name I had before I used it as an on screen name.

That being said if I do PM someone about a purchase I always use my real name & supply an email, and sometimes leave a ph number.

I believe in starting my emails with "Hi" (or similar) and signing off with my name. Looking more polite only takes a few more keystrokes. :)

if you are messaging someone about BUYING something its different, you are creating a personal/proffesional relationship, and will most likely meet them IRL.

but for advice, questions, pic requests...
i wont sign my name, as that IS "forensick" asking

I think it's rude when people don't reply to PM's regarding a for sale add.... :(

Even when you leave your name, and address them by theirs, and make every effort to be polite:(

And then they start a thread on PM etiquette :D

I think people are forgetting the grammar side of it and replacing it by speedy forms of communication, i.e. quick emails & PM & inmost cases most people if they communicate frequently they should know each others email address at a glance.

Sorry bump73 but I have never recieved any PMs from you so that would make it rather difficult to reply to any.

It's regarding a Bredlii
Ben

I can see both sides...

When I am inquiring with a breeder I don't know I try to be polite and use manners etc.... I dont see how hard it is to do something like this:

Hi (insert name here)

I am interested in one of your (insert sex and breed here).

Could you please send me some pictures etc of the ones you have left so I can choose?

You can contact me on 1234 or [email protected]

Thanks for your time.

Looking forwad to hearing from you.

Cheers
(insert name here)

I guess its cos i work in PR but i do think its essential to have a good first impression although on the other hand i WOULD NOT at any time disregard a pm, email, txt etc because of poor grammar or manners etc, because in the end the herp may go to a good home with the person who cant spell or doesnt display correct manners.

I also think it may be a generation gap thing.....

As for the name thing.... i get called spiral or swing at herp meetings and i'm the exact same person online as in person lol so i dont really mind.

Although you are gonna need thier full name and details if they are serious about buying anyway..

So i can see both sides....

Cheers
Cass

Sounds like a good way to filter out the kickers.
And if you dont like the first Pm/Emailing the entire transaction might prove painful..lol

A forum user names isnt always so fluid, if somone makes contact only under the username later communication over the phone or email and they dont make it clear who they are, could be confusing :S

It is very irritating.

I one along the lines of- "Yo m8 have ya stil got da geko 4 sale I want it"

I generally just hate it when people abbreviate their comment so much that it is barely understandable and when people capitalise every word.
There, I've had my whinge!

emailing texting etc is all about shortness , being quick and manners is out the window, cheers debbie

I hate it when people Capitalize The First Letter Of Each Word

I know what you mean..
It's not that hard to be polite via email...even if you do wish to remain anonymous (sp?).
I recently got an email for one of the puppies I had saying:
"can you please put you dog on hold because I might be instead"
Not only does the lack of punctuation irritate me (won't comment on grammer as English may not be their first language), but a basic 'hi' and a bit of explanation wouldn't hurt.
Stupid people.
Needless to say they received a generic response saying that they wouldn't be considered for any adoptions.
