I'd already posted earlier that my adult pair of accies are arriving soon.

I've just found out from the seller that they are currently doing the happy dance and that the female will most likely be gravid when I receive her.

I haven't had herp eggs before, much less monitor eggs.

I'll ask a bunch of specific questions and I'm hoping that APS gurus can come to my rescue!

1. How long is the period between fertilisation of the eggs and the time that the female lays them?

2. Should I place a box in the enclosure that she can enter and lay in? Should I fill it with any particular medium?

3. Is it recommended that I remove the eggs straight away?

4. How do I tell if they are viable eggs?

5. What medium is best for placing them in to incubate?

6. Does temperature affect sex?

7. What temperature is recommended - am I supposed to vary it at all?

8. How much water should be used?

9. How long does it usually take from laying until hatching?

All help will be MUCH appreciated!!!

1. How long is the period between fertilisation of the eggs and the time that the female lays them?

Can be 3 weeks from now, but probably not till after winter I'd reckon.

She'll need somewhere to dig and lay the eggs, sand is good.

3. Is it recommended that I remove the eggs straight away?

Yes

4. How do I tell if they are viable eggs?

They are white and well shaped. You can candle them, dunno how reliable this is with goanna eggs. Incubate all eggs anyway till they stink.

5. What medium is best for placing them in to incubate?

Vermiculite / Water in a 60/40 weight-weight ratio.

6. Does temperature affect sex

Maybe

7. What temperature is recommended - am I supposed to vary it at all?

31C I think. No.

8. How much water should be used?

60/40

9. How long does it usually take from laying until hatching?

Dunno.

it takes about 100 days for ackie eggs to hatch depending on the temperature, 30 degrees is fine.
Perlite is generally better for monitor eggs same water/perlite ratio as vermiculite. Sex determination by temperature has not been proved in monitors
