Hey, just wondering if the foam you get of a builders site would be fine to use, its the same as styrofoam except its light green ?
also there are so many opinions on what to use. is it best to use grout for a few coats first then pondtite ? if some one can give me a simple explanation that would be great cheers tallis. :)

I can only speak from my experience and that is I have used polystyrene and that green styrofoam and then covered it with 4 x cement coats on one enclosure and covered another with builders render on another. Painted it and then sealed with pondtite.
good luck.

It depends what you are going to use the background for?
If it is for a dragon then you may have to give it a coat of grout first to give it some durable.
if it is for a snake you might get away with just 2 coats of pondtite.
Good luck hope it works.

ok thanks, its for my jungle pythons decided to go with a few coats of pondtite mixed with paints and sand to get the desired effect cheers
