 we are first time keepers / parents to 2 beardies (central) , (about 3-4months old) we have have had them for about 4 weeks. They have been up & down over that time eating well then going off food & water for a day or so so then eating then not until Aussie day when one went down hard we booked a vet for monday but one didn't make it. Turns out they had pin worms & coccidia levels were up,the vet wormed the other and had a stay over night. He was picking up until last friday when he stoped eating again. Back to the vet more treatment but no good, hes going down again and we are all stressing out!

Sorry to hear it mate. What have you been feeding them? Who did you buy them from?

feeding small crickets, boc choy, some bannana (once)
we brough them down from brisbane with export lic.
First time on site! not sure if doing it right?

All the best

Your doing fine with the site.

You have to intro yourself to let people know who you are and where your from. Don't tell them too much though.

I hope things work out. That's the downfall of owning herps (as with any other pets). They are subject to all sorts of problems as we are ourselves.

it gets you down when they are!
I am 38 yo married 2 kids who are right into all animals, live in sydney. heavy into junior rugby league. Unlike me (brains) my eldest 14yo wants to be a vet & is smart enough to do it!

I have learn't alot from reading your posts over the past few days! wish i had found it sooner!
Thanks
I won't be giving up!

That is such a shame! Sorry to hear it...
And sorry that you didn't find this site earlier! As I'm sure by now you have figured out there are several really good beardie breadies in Sydney that would happily have kept in contact with you after selling to you to make sure everything is ok..

We have learnt a really hard lesson !
The attraction of of buying in Qld was we could see different species on display in shops, in NSW its pic's on the net! In hindsight we should have looked in Qld decided on a species & bought back in Sydney. We will be dealing LOCAL in the future.
We are just concentrating on our remaining Beardie "JET" & hope he pulls through.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience :(
Buying from a petshop generally isnt a good idea, if you want to get a reptile from a shop go to one that specialises in reptiles.
A petshop should help you out if they sold you animals in poor health, if you think they were sick from when you got them ask for a rufund for the cost of the lizards or report them to QPWS.

The majority of petshop have less than satifactory conditions for most of their animals and buying is always going to be risky and sadly its usually ppl like your self who are new to the hobby who cop it.

I would hate to think what you payed for them but you should be able to get them from a breeder for $25+ depending on colours.

I contacted the shop to let them know our situation. They only know of one other death from that clutch, they have a vet attached to their shop & will test for worms & coccidia. I had a long chat with them & feel they are genuine in their concern for the welfare or their stock & reputation as reptile dealers. I'm puting this down to experience!
Some good news we were able to get some food & water into Jet (by gentle force)
