Thanks guys, i'm feeling a little more hopeful for the little guy now.
Sorry to freak you out Koubee - just going on what my vet told me,(she is not a rep vet though) and mine was an injury. I feel for you, there is nothing worse than not knowing what to do for them. Thanks guys, i'm feeling a little more hopeful for the little guy now.
Thanks Dan - you are a great help! If it hadn't have been for you my Beardie would never have survived. She is now very happy and healthy with all four legs, just lost a couple of toes off her back legs. The response to the Fortum was basically overnight. The problem lies not in what drug we use but the high incidence of multi resistant Pseudomonas and Aeromonas bacterial infections as predominant flora in reptiles.. This means that many of these bacterial organisms will not respond willy nilly to any drug we throw at them. This is why a culture first is very important. Unfortunately, many of the drugs to which we get positive results are not common dog/cat drugs so will not be offered. This means that common drugs like baytril are used relentlessly and eventually will be less effective as resistance increases. Drugs like Tazobactin and Fortum are considered "specialist" drugs by most vets and will have to be specially ordered. Even some chemists/hospital pharmacies do not stock them routinely.
