Hey Everyone,
i came home Thursday night and did my daily rounds with my dragons to find the only pair of beardies ( around 6 months old) i have living together have had a fair old tussle and the smaller of the two, my female has in fact lost and served some injuries. first of all i looked them both over and realized her tail has taken a chomping and she has got what seems to be a broken leg/ankle... Great!
Quite pissed off indeed as im already running late now i have to boog down to the vet to get the poor little thing checked out. She has a cut on her leg along with a lot of damaged scales which seem to have kind of scabbed over almost and is holding her leg down her side, not using that foot and a lot of damaged scales on the end of the tail. what makes things worse is it is the day her shed was starting to lift.
The vet to the doctor has cost me money i don't have but i can suck that up if everything pans out well. i got some pain killers and she said that little obi will be fine but im not so sure...

What im asking is to the experienced keepers, but do damaged scales repair in a few sheds? as it seems that the problem areas have gone almost scab like and as the shed is starting to come off the scales are coming as well leaving raw skin underneath. is this normal? ill try to put up some pics so you can see what i mean but i only have an i phone so they might be dodgy at best..

sorry for the long story but ive never had beardies try to fight before... I have 1 trouble maker who has caused problems since he got here. guess like people some dragons are just ****ers.. lol he has nice colours though so what can ya do lol.

Cheers for any help guys

Toby

I have limited experience in this except for a hatchy whose head was crushed by a larger hatchy, you'd be amazed what they can survive. Had a jaw in three pieces and a caved in skull at the front. Had to reset the jaw, tap it up and syringe feed him water and liquid food for a few weeks but he was fine.

As long as you check her for infection and treat accordingly she should pull through A-OK. The scales will heal up over time except for the potential for scarring where the underlying tissue has been lacerated. Give her privacy away from the offender for good i'd say, put the heat up, don't let her sulk at the cool end and try not to defer from routine too much as it could stress her and cause more problems. Keep a close eye and don't hesitate to take her back to the specialist if you're worried. If she doesn't start using the leg and foot after four days (after inflammation and the majority of pain should have subsided) then she could indeed have broken something and may be worth another checkup. Are you seeing a specialist?

Oh, and good luck!

bitchface (well, Kaida, but thats fast becoming her name) attacked sabrinas arm in the 5 seconds they had contact a while ago,...(both female beardies that do not live together)
Sabrinas arm was swollen, she limped for about a week and her arm skin started looking pretty raw after a few days. (not as bad as urs by the sounds of it tho)

i betadined her twice a day for a week and 6 months later her arm is perfect, no signs of damage, it did take a few sheds tho.
(if you have access to chlorhexadine that would be better, diluted 20:1)

I think that is what i have for her. i got a syringe full from the vet made up and i have to give it to her orally for the next week. thats good to hear. i hope she starts to use it again in the next few days.. ill try the betadine
